Weekly Prayer:

Our Maker God, we sinners confess to you what we are. We like the path of life to be easy, comfortable, and untroubled. We like problems to melt away, hardships to be smoothed over, Stones to turn to bread for us. We do not want the hard way that Jesus takes. We like every step to be free from fears. We like to see mighty power helping us at every turn. We like miracles to be happening for our benefit. We do not want the faithful way that Jesus takes.

Merciful God, by all the grace of those forty desert days, arm us against those temptations, alert us to their corruption, forgive us our sins. Teach us to tread the way that Jesus takes, for his sake. Anyone in Christ becomes a new person altogether.

The past is finished and gone, everything has become fresh and new. Friends, believe the good news of the gospel: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
